Martin-Buber-Award

Martin Buber (1878 - 1965) was a Jewish philosopher whose books and essays emphasize the relevance of "the dialogical principle" in the relationships of human beings. This term implies: to take notice of and to listen to the OTHER, to show another human being that you care and that you feel responsible...

During the annual International Culture and Science Festival EURIADE the Martin-Buber-Award is given to people who see, listen to and take care of the OTHER and whose achievements constitute factual answers to and solutions of their fellow citizens' questions and problems.

On November 15, 2013, this award will be given to:

Hans-Dietrich Genscher
Long-term Minister of Internal and Foreign Affairs (1969-1992) and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Jointly responsible in decisive positions for the dialogue between East and West and for the re-unification of Germany.

A swamp lies there below the hill,
Infecting everything I’ve done:
My last and greatest act of will
Succeeds when that foul pool is gone.
Let me make room for many a million,
Not wholly secure, but free to work on.

(Goethe, Faust II)
